Lesson format
This lesson follows a fixed pattern used for all verb-tense lessons: the same 20 verbs, full conjugation table, and 3 sample sentences per verb — no dialogues.

Definite vs Indefinite Conjugation
Hungarian has two conjugation systems in every tense. The choice depends on whether the object is definite or not.
Indefinite (alanyi ragozás)
Látok egy házat.I see a house. (indefinite object)
Eszek almát.I'm eating (some) apple.
Olvasok könyvet.I'm reading a book.
Definite (tárgyas ragozás) ← this lesson
Látom a házat.I see the house. (definite object)
Eszem az almát.I'm eating the apple.
Olvasom a könyvet.I'm reading the book.
When to use the definite conjugation
The object has a / az (the) · the object is a proper noun (Látom Annát) · the object is ezt / azt (this / that) · the object is a personal pronoun object (Szeretem őt — I love him/her)
Lenni and menni
These two verbs are intransitive — they never take a direct object — so they have no definite conjugation. Their present tense forms shown here are indefinite-only and are included to keep the 20-verb list consistent across all lessons.

* Sibilant rule: verbs ending in s, sz, z double the consonant when j follows: néz + jük → nézzük, olvas + ja → olvassa, játsz + ja → játssza.
