🔁 Habits and Customs — Szokott + infinitive

To say what people usually do, use szokott + the infinitive. Szokott takes the personal ending; the infinitive never changes: Karácsonykor sokat szoktunk enni ("At Christmas we usually eat a lot"). For the negative put nem before it: Nem szoktam pezsgőt inni.

Magyarországon a karácsony a legnagyobb családi ünnep.

December 6-án jön a Mikulás.

Real Hungarian Tip — Celebrations Take -kor To say at a festival, add -kor to the name: karácsonykor (at Christmas), húsvétkor (at Easter), szilveszterkor (on New Year's Eve). For a date use -án/-én: augusztus 20-án, december 6-án.
Boldog Takes the -t Boldog + the object: the noun takes the accusative -t, because you are wishing ("I wish you …") the thing: Boldog karácsonyt!, Boldog húsvétot!, Boldog születésnapot! — and Boldog új évet!.
Name Days — Névnap Hungarian calendars give each day a first name, and people celebrate on the day of their own name — often with a small gift or flowers, especially at work or in the family. It is a nice and easy occasion for a greeting. If you know somebody's name, you can look up the day in any Hungarian calendar.
