The Article, Not "My" French uses the article with parts of the body: J'ai mal au dos (not à mon dos), Il a mal à la tête. The same habit applies in other sentences about the body, so "I wash my hands" is Je me lave les mains (literally "I wash myself the hands").
Depuis Takes the Present English says "I have lived here for two years"; French says J'habite ici depuis deux ans (present tense). Use the present with depuis for something that is still true, and ask Depuis quand ? ("since when?") or Depuis combien de temps ? ("for how long?").
Real French Tip — Pharmacies Help French pharmacies are marked with a green cross, and the pharmacist will advise on minor problems (colds, sore throats, minor cuts) before you see a doctor. Outside normal hours, a pharmacie de garde is on duty; the notice on any pharmacy door says which one. In a real emergency you call a number, which you will learn in Chapter 12.
