Answers will vary by topic. A worked example, using video games:

PRIMARY SOURCE: the game itself (playable directly), or a developer's
own original design documents, patch notes, or a direct developer
interview/commentary about their own creative decisions. These are
firsthand material - direct evidence of what the developers actually
built or said, with no intermediary interpretation.

Why it fits: it fits the same underlying definition used throughout
the chapter - original, firsthand material that hasn't been filtered
through someone else's analysis. Just as an eyewitness account is
primary in journalism because it comes directly from the person who
experienced the event, a developer's own patch notes are primary
because they come directly from the people who made the decision being
described.

SECONDARY SOURCE: a game review or a retrospective analysis video
discussing the game's design choices, written or made by someone who
wasn't part of the original development team.

Why it fits: a reviewer's analysis is built on top of the primary
material (playing the game, reading the patch notes) and adds
interpretation, evaluation, or context that didn't come directly from
the original creators - the same relationship a historian's book has
to an original letter, or a review article has to an original study.

ANSWER: (worked example) Primary source: the game itself, or the
developers' own original patch notes/interviews - firsthand material
directly from the people who made the creative decisions. Secondary
source: a review or retrospective analysis by someone outside the
development team, interpreting and evaluating that primary material.
