SEQUENCE
26 Oct 1979: Park is assassinated (Chapter 6).
12 Dec 1979: Chun Doo-hwan carries out a coup.
17 May 1980: martial law is extended nationwide.
18 May: students protest at Chonnam National University; paratroopers
respond with violence.
21 May: civilians begin arming themselves.
27 May: the military retakes the city in about 90 minutes.
