Challenge 2: Giving Each Chapter Section Its Own Header — Solution Walkthrough

What's missing:

The three chapter sections already exist (from Chapter 3's section
breaks), but every section's header is still set to "Same as
Previous" by default — meaning Chapter 2 and Chapter 3's own headers
are simply mirroring Chapter 1's header content rather than showing
anything of their own. The section BREAKS exist, but the header LINK
between them was never actually turned off.

Steps to fix Chapter 2's header specifically:

  1. Double-click into Chapter 2's header (anywhere on a page within
     that section) to enter header-editing mode.
  2. In the Header & Footer Tools ribbon, click "Link to Previous" to
     turn it OFF (it's highlighted/active by default; clicking it
     toggles it off).
  3. Word will typically show a warning that the header will no
     longer match the previous section — proceed, since that's
     exactly the intended change.
  4. Edit the header text to read "Chapter 2" instead of "Chapter 1."

Repeat the identical three steps for Chapter 3's own header (link it
off, then edit its text to "Chapter 3").

WHY THIS WORKS AS AN ANSWER

Turning off Link to Previous is what converts a section's header from
"a mirror of whatever the previous section shows" into "its own
genuinely independent content" — only after that toggle is off does
editing that section's header affect ONLY that section, rather than
propagating back to (or simply continuing to copy) an earlier
section's content. Chapter 1's own header can be left completely
alone throughout this process, since it was never linked to anything
before it — only Chapters 2 and 3 needed their own link turned off,
since they're the ones inheriting Chapter 1's content by default.
