Challenge 1: Building the Structured Report Foundation — Solution Walkthrough

Setup steps:
  1. Type at least 3 section titles (e.g. "Overview," "Q3 Results,"
     "Recommendations"), each followed by body text. Apply the
     Heading 1 style to each title (Home > Styles gallery).
  2. Insert a wide table (more columns than fit comfortably in
     portrait) somewhere in the document.
  3. Place the cursor immediately before that table and insert a Next
     Page section break (Layout > Breaks > Section Breaks > Next
     Page). Place the cursor immediately after the table and insert a
     second Next Page section break. This isolates the table's page
     as its own section.
  4. With the cursor inside that isolated section, Layout >
     Orientation > Landscape.
  5. Select the table, References > Insert Caption, choose "Table" as
     the label — it becomes "Table 1" automatically.
  6. At the very top of the document, insert a page for the Table of
     Contents: References > Table of Contents > pick a built-in
     style.

Confirming it worked:

Open View > Navigation Pane — all 3 Heading-1 titles should appear as
a clickable outline, confirming they're genuine Heading styles, not
just bolded/enlarged text (Chapter 2's own core distinction). The
Table of Contents should list all 3 section titles with page numbers
matching where they actually appear; if anything looks off, right-
click the ToC and Update Field > Update entire table (Chapter 4).

WHY THIS WORKS AS AN ANSWER

Every piece here depends on the one before it: the ToC can only find
real headings because Step 1 used genuine Heading styles (Ch.2); the
landscape page only affects that ONE page because it's isolated by
TWO section breaks, not one (Ch.3); and the caption numbers the table
automatically rather than needing a manually-typed, easily-stale
label (Ch.4). None of these three pieces work correctly in isolation
if an earlier one was skipped or done incorrectly.
