klingon_grammar1-6 Exercise 3: Putting Suffixes in Order ========================================================= Correct order (by rank): -nIS (2) -> -choH (3) -> -laH (5) -> -pu' (7) vI- + legh + nIS + choH + laH + pu' = vIleghnISchoHlaHpu' Meaning: "I have been able to begin to need to see it". It is a silly sentence; the point is the order, not the sense. Why vIleghpu'laH is not allowed: -pu' is rank 7 (aspect) and -laH is rank 5 (ability). A lower rank must come before a higher one, so -laH must come first: vIleghlaHpu'. Hungarian "I can see it": látom -> láthatom (lát-hat-om) What it shares with Klingon: the ability is a suffix added to the verb root (-hat- and -laH). The difference is where the person information goes: in Hungarian it is the last ending (-om); in Klingon it is the prefix (vI-).
