klingon_grammar1-5 Exercise 3: Four Word Orders ================================================ "The warrior sees the child": SVO the warrior sees the child (English, Esperanto) SOV the warrior the child sees (Japanese) VSO sees the warrior the child (Irish, Welsh) OVS the child sees the warrior (Klingon; the words are "puq legh SuvwI'") Why third-person Klingon relies on word order: The verb prefixes mark the subject and object only when a first or second person is involved (vI-, qa-, Da- and so on). When both are third person, the prefix is empty, so nothing on the verb says who does what. The nouns have no case endings either, so their position (object first, subject last) is the only signal.
