klingon_grammar1-10 Exercise 2: Time Words =========================================== wa'leS ghaytan nujatlh They will probably speak to us tomorrow. wa'leS tomorrow time adverb: first ghaytan probably another adverb, after the time adverb nu- prefix: they do it to us (3rd person subject, us as object) jatlh root: speak nujatlh the verb: nu- + jatlh The time adverb opens the sentence, other adverbs follow, then the verb. There is no tense: "tomorrow" supplies the time. "two days ago" cha'Hu' (cha' + -Hu') "three days from now" wejleS (wej + -leS) Why no word for "the day after tomorrow": -Hu' and -leS attach to any number, so cha'leS ("two days from now") is already "the day after tomorrow". The two suffixes build every distance in days, backwards or forwards, from numbers.
