conlangs1-5 Exercise 2: A Brief for a Fictional Language ========================================================= One possible answer. The people: A seafaring clan of traders who live on rafts and trade along a river delta. Three requirements: 1. Sounds right: soft consonants and long vowels, like water. 2. Speakable: no more than two consonants in a row, so actors can learn it. 3. Able to grow: a word-building suffix for "person who does X". First ten words for a harbour tavern scene: 1 water 6 money 2 boat 7 friend 3 drink 8 hello 4 food 9 yes 5 trade 10 no Invent first: hello, yes and no, because every scene needs them; then drink and food, because a tavern scene is built on them; then water and boat to give the place its identity. Your own answer will differ. Check that each requirement affects at least one design choice, and that the first words are the ones a scene needs.
