conlangs1-11 Exercise 1: Governance Models =========================================== (a) Klingon Designer as authority. Marc Okrand publishes new words and answers questions; what he publishes is canon. Benefit: consistent. Risk: depends on one person. (b) Esperanto A fixed foundation with open growth (the Fundamento of 1905), with an academy that advises on usage. Benefit: stable core. Risk: argument over what lies beyond the core. (c) Toki Pona Open community. The founder's books are a starting point and the community has added to them. Benefit: lively. Risk: drift into different dialects. (d) An invented language with no founder, for example a language that grew in a school Open community by default. Benefit: no bottleneck. Risk: no shared standard. For Meren: a fixed core with open vocabulary. Reason: it is a small community and a language for a people, so the grammar and sounds should stay stable (learnable) while words grow with needs.
