conlangs1-10 Exercise 3: A First Thirty Words ============================================== One possible plan (for an auxiliary language for travellers). 1 Pronouns I, you, we, who, what (5) 2 Basic verbs eat, drink, go, come, see, give, want, have (8) 3 Numbers one, two, three (3) 4 Places house, road, water, market (4) 5 People friend, child, man, woman (4) 6 Qualities good, bad, big, small (4) 7 Useful words yes, no (2) Roots: a posteriori. Borrow the roots from the most widely known languages, so that a traveller recognises many words at once. This suits a bridge language, whose purpose is quick learning. For an artlang the choice would flip: invent the roots from the language's own sound rules, so that the vocabulary sounds like one people's speech. Your plan will differ. Check that the words are in order of usefulness and that the source of roots matches the language's purpose.
