ANSWER
1. The active scheme. A scheme names the configuration it uses, so check
   that the debug and release runs are using the schemes you think they are.
2. The build configuration settings. Release and Debug inherit the target's
   settings but can override them; a setting that differs between the two is
   a candidate cause.
3. The target's own settings. The configurations inherit from the target, so
   a setting on the target that the configurations treat differently could
   matter.

WHAT THE CHAPTER DOES NOT TELL YOU
It does not say which specific settings commonly differ between Debug and
Release, so it cannot say what the crash's cause is. Those are for the
