🏢 Where You Work — Hol dolgozol?

"Where" is again an ending on the place name: -ban/-ben (inside a building), -nál/-nél (at a firm or person) and, for some places, -on/-en/-ön (on). The vowel-harmony rule picks the back or front form.

As in Chapter 4, learn the ending with each word.

🔤 Three More Verbs — Igék

Dolgozni is an -ik verb like lakni from the last chapter: its 1st person ends in -om (dolgozom) and its 2nd person in -ol (dolgozol), not -sz.

Real Hungarian Tip — Jó munkát! When you leave someone who is working, or meet them at work, you can wish them Jó munkát! ("Have a good day's work!"). It is a friendly way of acknowledging that the other person is working. The reply is Köszönöm! or Neked is! ("You too!").
No "a" Before Your Job Hungarian never puts an article before a job after vagyok: Tanár vagyok, Orvos vagyok. Adding egy would sound odd. Job words are also the same for men and women (tanár, orvos); only a few, like titkárnő, have a special female form.
Magyart tanulok — A New Ending In dialog 4 you met Magyart tanulok ("I'm learning Hungarian"): the language word magyar takes an ending -t because it is the object of the verb. You will meet this object ending properly in Chapter 8, when you order a coffee (Kérek egy kávét).
Mivel foglalkozol? Another way to ask someone's job is Mivel foglalkozol? (MIH-vehl FOG-lawl-ko-zol), literally "What do you occupy yourself with?". It sounds natural and a little more casual than Mi a foglalkozásod?
