eusong1-5, Exercise 1: Winning and lasting Model answer: "Nel blu dipinto di blu" (Volare) by Domenico Modugno, for Italy in 1958, did not win the contest (it is generally reported as finishing third), but it became one of the best-known Italian songs in the world. The winner of that year is far less remembered, so the result and the lasting fame came apart. Another example: "Ne partez pas sans moi" and "Waterloo" won, but their fame owes as much to the careers they launched; the Bucks Fizz entry of 1981 is remembered for its staging as much as its score. Any entry that is more famous than its placing fits, as long as you can say why. Check the placings in the official results before quoting them.
