esperanto_story1-6, Exercise 2: A more careful claim Model answer (check the details): Original: "The Nazis banned Esperanto because it was a Jewish plot." Careful version: "In the 1930s Esperanto societies in Germany were dissolved, including the national association in 1936. Nazi propaganda linked the language to Jews and to internationalism, and the regime distrusted the movement's foreign contacts and its pacifist and left-wing members. Historians describe several reasons, and policy was not identical in every place and year." What changed: "banned" became specific acts and dates; "because" became several documented reasons; "plot" became what propaganda claimed. Care: do not deny the antisemitic element, and do not make it the only cause. Check dates against a historian's account.
