huspa1-5, Exercise 2: Damage and originality Model answer: The complex was heavily damaged in the Second World War, especially in the siege of Budapest of 1944 and 1945. It was repaired and reopened in stages and restored again in later rounds. The building therefore looks original but contains layers of repair and replacement, so "original" is a matter of degree: the design and much of the decoration are early twentieth century, but some parts are rebuilt. This is the same layering seen in the Ottoman baths. Dates and extent of damage should be checked.
