huspa1-1, Exercise 1: Why the springs rise on the Buda side Model answer: Budapest lies along a line of geological faults where the hills of Buda meet the plain of Pest. Rain and snow soak into the limestone and dolomite of the hills, sink deep, are heated by the earth, and rise again along the faults as warm, mineral-rich water. Many springs emerge near the Danube, so many of the famous baths are on the Buda side. Széchenyi in Pest needed a deep well instead. Depths and temperatures should be checked.
