Large team ball sports such as basketball and volleyball: Hungary has won few medals, perhaps because very big countries with deep talent pools dominate, and because these sports offer a single medal per Games, not many.

Winter sports: little success until recently, perhaps because of climate, the cost of facilities and a small tradition. A first gold came in short-track speed skating at Pyeongchang in 2018.

Alternatives: cycling, rowing and sailing. The reasons are suggestions and the facts should be checked.
