hufolk1-8, Exercise 3: A legend Model answer (Matthias the Just): King Matthias Corvinus goes among his people in disguise, sees injustice by nobles and officials, and punishes it, so that the poor receive fair judgement. The tale tells us that the community remembers a ruler as a protector against local power, and that popular memory turns a historical king into an ideal of justice. It is folk memory, not record. (The Wondrous Stag works similarly as a founding legend: brothers chase a stag and find a new land, expressing origin and belonging. Check versions.)
