Exercise 3 - Fertod and Godollo (sample answer) Fertod: built mainly under Prince Miklos Esterhazy in the second half of the eighteenth century; a French-influenced country palace for a court that employed Haydn. It shows a family wanting to rival a royal court. Godollo: built for the Grassalkovich family in the eighteenth century; later used by Franz Joseph and Elisabeth as a country retreat after 1867. It shows a noble house whose palace later became a royal one. Check dates, architects and the "Hungarian Versailles" label.
