Exercise 4.2 - Solution Role: Hidegkuti was nominally the centre-forward, but he dropped back into the space between midfield and defence and acted as a playmaker. The dilemma for the opposing centre-half (who in the WM formation marked the centre-forward man for man): - If he followed Hidegkuti out of defence, he left a gap behind him, which Puskás and Kocsis ran into from the inside-forward positions. - If he stayed in defence, Hidegkuti had time and room to receive the ball, turn and pass or shoot. Either choice gave Hungary an advantage.
