Exercise 3.3 - Solution A fair version: Hogan was one important influence among several. Scottish coaches, Hungarian players and coaches who developed the style, and Sebes's own methods in the 1950s all shaped the Golden Team, and Hogan helped to establish the passing and ball-control tradition they inherited. One reason England forgot him (any one): English football was confident it was the best and did not feel the need to learn from abroad; the Football Association was slow to take coaching seriously; or he had worked in countries at war with Britain in the First World War, which some at home viewed with suspicion.
