By 1950 Hungary already had clubs from the 1880s and 1890s, a national federation from 1901, an international record going back to 1902, strong clubs in the Mitropa Cup in the 1920s and 1930s, and a World Cup final in 1938. The Golden Team inherited that organisation, rivalry and playing style, so they were the peak of fifty years of development.
