Tatort ("crime scene") is a crime series first shown in November 1970 (check) that has run ever since on Sunday evenings, with a new episode most weeks. It is made by many of the regional broadcasters, so each team of detectives is based in a different city, with its own style: some serious, some comic. Austria and Switzerland contribute teams too.

It reflects the regional structure of German broadcasting because each broadcaster in the ARD network makes its own episodes, and the settings are real cities and regions, giving the series a map-like quality. It is also a shared Sunday-evening ritual.
