defilmtv1-4, Exercise 1: The rubble film Model answer: A rubble film (Trümmerfilm) is one of the first postwar German films, set among the ruins and dealing with returning soldiers, homelessness, guilt and what to do with former Nazis. Examples (any one): The Murderers Are Among Us (1946, Wolfgang Staudte), often named as the first German film after the war; Somewhere in Berlin (1946, Gerhard Lamprecht). They were not widely popular because audiences, living among the ruins, mostly wanted escape and entertainment, and the films confronted what people wished to forget. They were also few in number.
