Exercise 10.3 - Solution

Open answer; marked on reasoning, not on a fixed conclusion.

For: the show put teams from several countries in the same contest, shared one set of pictures across borders, and gave millions of viewers a harmless evening with their neighbours, in the postwar spirit of twinning and reconciliation.

Against: there is no measurable evidence that it brought Europeans closer, its humour relied on national stereotypes, and the idea that it was designed by statesmen is legend. The symbol has been added by memory afterwards.

A good answer states a position, uses at least one point from each side and notes what is record and what is memory.
