frmusic1-9, Exercise 2: Rai

Model answer:

Rai is a popular music from western Algeria, with roots in the city of Oran. It began as a rural and cabaret style with sung poetry about love, drink, hardship and freedom, and in the 1980s it took on electronic instruments and a pop sound. Many of its stars lived or recorded in France, and Paris became a second home to the genre, which carried it to mainstream French audiences; Khaled is the best-known figure.
